Why Every Cyclist Needs a Turbo Trainer

In the sport of cycling, you can either be a run-of-the-mill amateur, a competitor, or a champion. There are no other categories to fall into. Many people want to fall into the final category – but due to their lack of training knowledge they end up falling behind. The truth of the matter is, there is no limit to becoming a powerful cyclist as long as you can ride a bike and are willing to learn. Being the best that you can be, in any sport, including cycling, is 20% talent and 80% hard work – and actually, the hard work will only pay off if you do it in the right way. Training intelligently is something that many athletes do not do, but it can be seen in the training regimes of every top competitor who ever existed. It consists of three things: Nutrition plans, out of season exercise, and intelligent training regimes. Keeping your body guessing with constantly changing training methods will always yield the fastest development, and a good nutrition plan will give your body everything it needs to get stronger, but what this article is going to talk about is out of season cycling training. Out of season (when the weather is too bad to cycle), cyclists must use turbo trainers or exercise bikes to stay in shape and keep themselves honed. Exercise bikes are common knowledge to most people – but have you ever heard of a turbo trainer?

Turbo trainers aren’t all that well known – but they certainly should be. No other device offers the same level of benefits for cyclists who train during the winter. Essentially, the turbo trainer holds your bicycle in a position so that you can sit on it and pedal it (changing gears to adjust the resistance) without the bike going anywhere. It is a great alternative to a normal exercise bike, because it takes up far less space and allows you to develop a stronger bond with your cycle. It can also be used as a stand to conduct adjustments and maintenance.

The benefits of winter cycling training are unquestionable. Those cyclists who spend the winter sitting at home, or exercising indoors with weights or exercise balls, can never expect to start the summer with the same level of fitness they enjoyed at the end of the summer before. Why would you spend a whole summer building up fitness, and then just let it creep away again? It doesn’t make sense.

Of all the cycling training equipment the serious cyclist can invest in, the turbo trainer can offer the most benefits. It essentially allows the cyclist to keep up the same training hours they enjoy in the summer, without having to brave the winter weather. Turbo trainers are a favourite among professional cyclists, and there is no reason you cannot enjoy the same benefits as they do. Combined with a great nutrition plan and some clever training regimes, this just might be your key to a new level of fitness.
